Zumba Fitness is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout that uses music and choreographed steps to create a fun, “fitness-party” atmosphere. With a tagline of “Ditch the Workout, Join the Party,” each class emphasizes moving to the music and having a good time; no rhythm or dance experience required!
While many of the types of dance and music featured in the program are Latin American inspired, classes also highlight everything from jazz to African beats and even hip-hop. Zumba Fitness is for anyone who loves to move and enjoys good music; people of all ages, shapes, and sizes are welcome and encouraged to attend our classes.
Each Zumba class begins with a dynamic warm-up and ends with a cool down and some stretching. The workout portion is broken down by song, each with a different dance routine. While many of the dance moves used are pre-choreographed by Zumba, our instructors often add their own flair, dance steps, or even create an entirely new routine to their favorite songs. Common moves in class are mambas, V-steps with exaggerated hips, cha-cha-chas, and side touches.
Zumba Fitness combines low-intensity and high-intensity dance moves for an interval-style, fitness session, and chances are you’ll practice different moves in each class. Zumba workout sessions are designed to get your heart rate up and boost cardio endurance.

Classes can be geared for just about any fitness level, and though most Zumba involves high-impact moves like bouncing and jumping, the classes are designed with all levels of experience in mind – whether you’re a beginner and have never tried a class or you’ve been doing it for years. We offer several Zumba Fitness classes throughout the month. Each class is 55 minutes long and includes stretching before and after.
Zumba Toning is all about the burn! Unlike Zumba Fitness, Zumba Toning classes place an extra emphasis on toning, sculpting, and strengthening your muscles. Additional core- strengthening resistance is created by using Zumba Toning Sticks to help you focus on specific muscle groups (legs, back, chest, and arms) and make the class a bit more challenging, as well as enhance your sense of rhythm.
The main difference between a regular Zumba class and a Zumba Toning class is the addition of various strength training exercises and the Zumba toning sticks. This particular class works on circuit training – which is a few minutes of cardio followed by a few minutes of strength training – and creates a higher calorie burn plus some cardiovascular exercise (more than strength training alone). If you’re looking for more than the typical aerobic workout you get from traditional Zumba, this is your class!
The Zumba Toning Sticks are a pair of light weights (they come in both 1lb and 2.5lb weights) that are typically used during a Zumba toning class. They are soft and weighted with sand, which makes them easy to hold onto, and they actually make a macara-like sound when they move – which just adds to the great dynamic of this class!
Because it’s such an active, energetic class, Zumba Toning burns calories – a lot of them! In this way, the class is similar to an interval workout in that each session alternates between high- and low-intensity moves. As is typical of this type of exercise, it burns more calories than a lesser intensity exercise such as jogging. Zumba Toning requires a whole new level of coordination and mind/body connection.
